Group Therapy

A Partner Left Behind - GFIDF also offers specialized support groups for bereaved partners, grounded in the belief in the healing power of sharing and community. In these groups, participants connect with others who live with a similar reality, express their pain, find mutual understanding, and draw strength from one another.

Meetings are held in a safe, supportive environment where participants can process emotions, exchange insights, and rely on the companionship of the group. Over time, these groups foster a sense of belonging that helps participants cope with their grief and provides enduring bonds of support. Many bereaved partners share that the connections they formed in their groups remain meaningful decades later, accompanying them throughout their lives.

Support groups are facilitated by clinical psychologists and clinical social workers who specialize in grief and bereavement and are, drawn from the association’s nationwide network of therapists. As with individual therapy, groups are supervised by Dr. Ofri Bar-Nadav, GFIDF’s Chief Psychologist, to ensure the highest level of professional care.

Most support groups meet once a week for the duration of one year, with the option to extend according to the needs and wishes of the participants. Additionally, GFIDF also offers programs tailored to different life situations, including:

  • Parenting young children or adolescents

  • Parenting children approaching enlistment

  • Seeking a new relationship

  • Other unique needs as they arise
